Introduction

Contemporary Vibes & Cocktails Galore

Tom & Charlotte chose The West Mill as the setting for their celebration, with a clean contemporary feel that we can't get enough of. These guys wanted their guests to have the best time, making sure it was a wedding to remember. With the alchemist dishing up smoky cocktails and a DJ live set in the evening, it really was an EPIC party with their nearest and dearest.

"Instagram and Pinterest provided plenty of inspiration for the look of the day, we wanted it to be elegant and timeless but still modern, with lots of greenery and flowers against the industrial back ground of the venue."

Let's hand you over to the bride, Charlotte, so you can find out even more about their big day...

TELL US ABOUT YOUR VENUE...

“We knew we wanted to get married in Derbyshire, as it sits between both our home counties of Lancashire and Leicestershire. The West Mill was the perfect location for the bride who grew up surrounded by the industrial warehouses of Manchester and the groom who grew up in the heart of rural England surrounded by the natural beauty of the countryside.

It was love at first sight! On our first visit and Andrew the co-creator led our tour – we knew this was something special! The authenticity of the building and it’s interiors was like no other, such a cool space from the cobbled flooring to the beautiful ceilings! We also loved the fact everything was in one place, but each floor had a different feel for the different parts of the day.”

DESCRIBE THE STYLE OF YOUR WEDDING...

“Modern, simple and botanical on an industrial background.

Our florist Nadia delivered this vision in bucket loads! Everything looked so beautiful, the flowers soften the clean white backdrops and we added a hint of gold with lanterns as a high light. We went for modern king protea with added glam of orchids with tropical leaves.

Our table plan was a beautiful simple piece, that used wax seals and beautiful calligraphy to point people to their seats, it was a lovely way to welcome our guests. This was created by Lovely J Lettering as well as our welcome sign and drink tokens!

Tables were dressed again with more greenery and lots of romantic candle light – in keeping with the modern look we wanted we went with acrylic table numbers and name tags, each guest having a personalised menu.

We wanted the crockery to really stand out, so we hired cement looking charger plates (fitting with the venue) and the stunning white and gold cutlery from Hélèn Millot Décor and printed personalised favour boxes by a personal friend I think gave an extra touch so each guest felt special.”

WHAT DID YOU ALL WEAR?

“BRIDE – An off the shoulder custom Watters gown in an ivory crepe, with covered buttons down the length of the cathedral train. Accessories:  Shoes – Lace Effect with Acrylic by Jimmy Choo, Head Piece – Luna Bea

GROOM – Grey Waistcoat and Suit by Reiss, with white silk pocket square and Black spotted tie from John Lewis

BRIDESMAIDS – ‘Fossil’ coloured Multi-way Dress by Victoria Lou Bridal, Flower girl – custom made gown by Divine Boutique, Leicester

GROOMSMEN – Light Dove Grey Suits – Marks and Spencer

We wanted a simple contemporary look and fresh colour scheme, green, white and grey felt summery and light fro an August wedding. Simplicity was really key.”

WHAT DID EVERYBODY EAT & DRINK?

“Having The Alchemist provide cocktails at our reception with the backdrop of ‘Radio 1 Live Lounge’ music was so much fun. We provided drink tokens and had personaliSed cocktails including a ‘Harry Potter Butter Beer’ and a ‘Smoking Light Bulb Moment’ paired with canapés of spicy Cajun prawn tortillas and minted lamb bites.

Being foodies meant we spent a lot of time at tastings ensuring we had an exciting and seasonal wedding breakfast. We had a four course wedding breakfast that consisted of cheese and truffle oil arancini, followed by parma ham, melon and mozzarella bruschetta. For mains guests had a choice between French trimmed chicken stuffed with chorizo and quinoa or fillet of beef. Finishing with a strawberry pannacotta tart served with mini meringues and strawberry and mint sorbet.

In the evening we opted for something different, a Cantonese street food stall where noodle dishes were cooked live in front of guests which added entertainment and not forgetting our incredible wedding cake! Our wedding cake was easily one of our favourite details of the day, it was breathtaking!

The impressive 3D geometric bottom tier was a coconut cake with raspberry filling, and the cement textured layers of the cake complimented the industrial venue and were made up of lemon and lime cake with a blueberry filling. The beautiful sugar flowers represented those in my bouquet, it was so unique to us and really was a centrepiece to the whole day, after all first comes love then comes cake!

HOW DID YOU ENTERTAIN YOUR GUESTS?

“Our band The Distractions were with us all day, from a Radio Live Lounge feel for the reception, with a saxophone player. A classic set of hits in the evening followed by DJ Live set which was a blend of club hits and amazing vocals. They had everyone up dancing, they were AMAZING

We hired ‘The Alchemist‘ Van to surprise our guests for our reception immediately after the ceremony, and had a selection of personalised cocktails for our guests to choose from using their drinks tokens that we had custom made. Each guest then received an alchemist engraved hip flask as a wedding favour.”

ANY WORDS OF ADVICE FOR FUTURE BRIDES & GROOMS?

“Make sure you spend time together as a couple, on the run up to the wedding we were both so busy running around organising the final preparations for the day. It was amazing sharing our day together, we had a little moment right after the wedding to share a cocktail and really reflect on the ceremony .. ‘Wow, we are married!’

It’s such a special moment and the day really does go as fast as people say. Do not spend the entire day making the rounds and keeping your guests happy, if you’re having fun they’ll have fun and follow your lead!”
