A Beautiful Laid Back Wedding with Serious Style
Here, we bring you the wedding day of Solomon & Emilie. This couple knew what they wanted and did it their way - they worked creatively to keep within budget and created a wedding which their family and friends will no doubt be talking about for years to come. Beautiful bride Emilie tells us more;
"We loved the pumping station and Solomon’s parents used to work there. We really wanted our wedding to be outdoors and to have a relaxed rustic feel which the venue created perfectly. The church we married in is our home church which most of our friends also go to, so this was very special to us.
I would describe the wedding as a relaxed, country style. We wanted everyone to enjoy being outside as much as possible. Having the hay bales, beer keg, rounders and just a general freedom for people to go where they wanted since it was a big site, allowed people to fully relax. It's hard to pin point an exact style, but it just felt like it was 'our' wedding. We wanted the wedding to be different and to be fun and relaxed, without the guests feeling like there was a strict itinerary.
"I think that the more the couple do, the more they can get out of it"
The dress was an eBay find, I wanted a dress that I could make my own stamp of creativity with. So I bought the dress and then a family friend helped re-design the dress with my input. We really wanted to do a lot of the creating ourselves. We used wooden disposable cutlery and plates and bought a marquee/car port so that we could sell it on afterwards – much cheaper than hiring a marquee! We had hay bales for seating and hired all of our tables and chairs. It was a lot of work, but it was worth it!! I wanted flowers to be the main source of decoration, we scattered them as well as candles and jars and that’s what we focused on in terms of decor. I think that the more the couple do, the more they can get out of it, as they then see all their handy work come together on the day!
"Be relaxed, it's going to be great!"
My advice to future brides would be just relax and keep things simple. We didn’t spend money on hiring cars and cutlery and things like that, which worked for us. We also didn’t have a seating plan at the reception which kept things relaxed!! Be relaxed, it’s going to be great. Think about which aspects are the most important to you. Having the right photographer is so important. Our photographers Grace and Mitch from Grace Elizabeth Photography are friends of ours; they knew exactly what we wanted, from their photographic style, to how many final photos were delivered. We felt relaxed and liked how the photos just naturally captured moments of the day, which is exactly what we wanted.”
