Kimmy & Rich
If you love food you’ll love this wedding! Kimmy and Rich are known by their friends and families to throw very good parties with exceptional food so of course their wedding was no different.
Over to Kimmy to tell you more…
“Our wedding reception was held at Pimhill Barns at Lea Hall. After lots of research online, we came across Pimhill and it just seemed perfect! We ultimately wanted somewhere that we could do everything ourselves, and we mean everything! Pimhill fitted this perfectly, so we viewed it and booked straight away, in fact it was the only venue we viewed.
Our original plan was to get married on the east coast of America as Kim has family there. Unfortunately, Kim’s dad was taken ill around 9 months before and this just put everything into perspective for us. Not only was there doubt over whether he would be able to fly, it made us re-evaluate and realise that having all of our family and close friends was really important to us. So this is where our inspiration came from, our original plan for a rustic backyard wedding with a focus on having a great time with lots of amazing food.
We are pretty well known within our group of friends for throwing a good party so our wedding had to live up to this expectation! We decided to keep lots of the details of the wedding top secret, so there were lots of surprises for everyone on the day, it was also fun keeping everyone guessing! We decided to go with the American tradition of cocktail hour to begin the reception with the bride’s and groom’s favourite drinks, and as we love our food we ditched the canapés and decided on a build your own bruschetta bar. This was followed by an informal dinner with sharing Nachos, beer can chicken and jelly castles and ice cream sharing plates for dessert.
Pimhill doesn’t have a bar, so rather than hiring one in we decided to make it ourselves! We bought apple crates off Ebay and collected drinks dispensers and glasses along the way. Kim’s dad contributed with a super cool illuminated bar sign. We stocked the bar ourselves and operated an open bar for the day, needless to say it was a great hit!
I imagine that most girls get excited about dress shopping, and I was no exception! I couldn’t wait to find my dream dress, little did I know it wouldn’t be that easy. I tried on so many dresses and went to lots of different bridal boutiques; I had reached the stage where I had pretty much given up, I mean nothing had even come close to making my mum cry, and that was the aim! I started to look at designers and came across Naomi Neoh, I just loved her feminine dresses, and was particularly struck by her ‘Beatrix’ dress after seeing it online. I searched stockist of found the beautiful Cicily Bridal. As soon as I walked in I saw that they had Beatrix so I tried it on walked out the dressing room and my mum was in tears- sold!! It was nothing I imagined I would wear but I felt amazing in the dress, it was without doubt my dream dress.
As we have already mentioned we were pretty hands on and did most things ourselves including creating the bar, arranging the flowers on the tables, the lighting, stationary and Rich even created his own playlist instead of having a DJ! However, our wedding could not have happened without our amazing suppliers. Food was always going to be the focus of our day, I mean we love our food! Paisley Flour Catering catered for our daytime guests and were fantastic at taking on board all of our ideas, Emma from Paisley didn’t say no to any of our crazy ideas which we loved! A special mention must go to Rupert who went from carving the ham, serving the dinner to creating some great cocktails for our guests on the evening as our bartender, a man of many talents! For the evening food we wanted something a little different to your usual hog roast so we contacted our favourite street food guys Original Patty Men to ask if they would come and cook burgers for our evening guests. These guys cook the most insane burgers and went down a storm with our guests, they are still talking about them now!
A few little mentions must go to Sian from Top Banana Weddings who was our on the day co-ordinator, she worked so hard and without her our day would never have run so smoothly. Also to our friend Kev from The Murmur who provided our evening entertainment, and to Poppy Trading Company who provided all of our furniture. The tables and chairs looked amazing in the barn and their vintage sofas provided the perfect chill our area.
Then there is HBA photography, these guys made our day perfect. They are the nicest people we have ever met and made us so comfortable and yet they were so professional. They captured every moment of our day that we can look back and remember forever, we cannot thank them enough for being unbelievably amazing! Rich watches the stop motion video on a daily basis!
Finally, we had cookies after church, a six tier wedding cake and a whole cake table with an array of amazing treats from Kimmy Loves Cake. But then again we would because I’m Kimmy!
My advice for Brides-to-be would be to do exactly what YOU want! You will find that lots of people will give you advice, question what you are doing and offer their suggestions, but your day should be a reflection of yourself. Be confident in your vision and enjoy every minute of planning your special day, it’s all over so quickly and before you know it the post wedding blues have set in!”
