Helen & Matt
With the Surname ‘Stubbs’ perhaps it was fate that Helen and Matt were to get married at Stubton Hall! Their wedding had a classic and romantic feel with a colour palette that reflected Matt’s RAF roots.
Here is Helen to tell you all about their big day…
“Matthew and I got married at Stubton Hall on the 6th March 2016. We visited a few venues in the Lincolnshire/ Nottinghamshire area as this was where I grew up and wanted to be married. We both like the countryside and wanted a venue that reflected this. We visited Stubton Hall and immediately fell in love with the whole atmosphere of the place. The country house is elegant with roaring fires and beautiful antiques and paintings in every room. The grounds are lovely and unspoilt and even include a stunning water feature. We were enchanted and knew we could see ourselves being wed at Stubton Hall. As well as that my married name would be Stubbs too!
We wanted a small intimate wedding with our closest relatives and friends so we could really spoil them. Matthew is in the RAF and so royal blue and blush pink were our chosen colours for the wedding. I wanted a soft, romantic and classic feel to the wedding and colours that wouldn’t clash with the decorations in the house.
As soon as we were engaged I started flipping through bridal magazines searching for the perfect dress. Even Matthew had a sneak in a few of the magazines and one day turned to a page, pointed to a dress, and said he imagined I would suit walking down the aisle in a dress like that. I had also previously spied the dress but said nothing as I wanted whichever dress I picked to be a surprise.
I booked an appointment at Wellbet Bridal Gowns in Swinderby and was met by the lovely Andrew who was to guide me through choosing a dress. Open minded I let Andrew choose a few gowns for me to try on. By sheer coincidence what should the very first dress he chose for me be?…. The one which Matthew had pointed out in the magazine! Surprised I tried on the Essence gown and absolutely loved it! I tried on many many more to make sure it was the one but none of the others could compete. The dress suited the venue and style of the wedding perfectly. I loved the whimsical cap sleeves and beaded lace. I paired it with a cathedral length veil and crystal headband. My shoes were from Freya Rose London and were the delicate Perdita style with hand embroided detail at the front.
We were married in the Music Room, with its enormous windows overlooking the parterre. It is a white room so you can really add your own personal style and touches. We had pink and white flowers in floor standing candelabras by the windows. We entwined the white chairs with blue satin ribbon and decorated the pew ends with white love hearts.
Our 50 guests joined us in the conservatory for a candle lit wedding breakfast. We had smoked salmon and caviar to start, fillet of beef for main and a Cointreau mousse to finish. For our reception, guests could go relax in the Chocolate bar and sink into the luxurious sofas by the fire or go dance the night away on the dance floor!
For flowers, we used the florist Jacaranda as recommended by Stubton Hal. Michelle did an amazing job on our flowers which included white hydrangea, bombastic roses and tulips in mirrored vases and candelabras.
Wedding stationary was done through Vistaprint as we could design and create our own save the date cards and wedding invites quickly and easily.
The cake topper we bought from a seller ‘Dances with Clay’ who is based in Dallas, America on Etsy. She makes customised cake toppers and we sent for rabbit cake toppers which were so unique and she even engraved our names and wedding dates underneath. We had a small rabbit motif running through our wedding which started on our save the date cards. It links to the March hare, it being nearly Easter and a fondness of the animal.
The cake was from the Marks and Spencers’ wedding cake range and stood out because of its lovely rose design which was in keeping with our flowers.

We chose Emily and Katy to be our wedding photographers because they are professional but put their passion into your wedding photos. We can’t recommend them highly enough or thank them enough for our stunning pictures.”
