“The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step” - Lay Tzu
Today, we introduce you to our regular contributor Jennifer Cordell who will be gracing the pages of our blog once a month. She’ll be talking about all things weddings from upcoming trends and must have styles to décor ideas, real weddings and inspired ways to create a totally unique day. Running her own rather successful blog (cordeliahearts.blogspot.com) Jenn knows a thing or two about this so we were so excited for her to join our team! Today is her very first blog for us and she is talking about a beaut of a real wedding which took place at the West Mill in Derbyshire. Let’s hand you over … here’s Jenn;
‘I love a good wedding’ is a term so freely used, but what actually makes a good wedding? Good can mean something different to everyone and it is very often that you hear - ‘yes it was a good wedding, but I wouldn’t have mine like that.’ Well, that is certainly not the case for the wedding that took place on Saturday 21st May 2016, the wedding of Heather and Chris Halls was, in my opinion, and judging by their friends and families faces on the fantastic images taken by Richard Murgatroyd, an incredibly good wedding and yes, I would most definitely have mine like that!
Heather shared that same look of pride for her father as he took steps that 4 years previous, he thought he wouldn’t be able to do
The imagery speaks for itself on this post and Richard managed to capture the details just beautifully, all styled by Karen from Darby and Joan, from the most vibrant colours used in their flowers by Kerry at Tineke, the quirky stationary provided by Mirlah at Best Day Ever to a pinterest award worthy cake, adorned with colourful marble detailing and topped with bright pink flamingos by Yummy Little Cakes. Oh and not forgetting the metallic pineapples decorating the reception of The West Mill, for those of you that know me from my own blog will know that I give this idea a huge high five!
It was clear that Heather and Chris had gone for a theme with their wedding, and that theme was quite simply ‘Let’s have some fun with this.’
There were of course moments which you’d expect from a wedding, with tears, laughter and the look of pride as a father walks his daughter down the aisle to her future husband, but that look of pride was reciprocated, as Heather shared that same look of pride for her father as he took steps that 4 years previous, he thought he wouldn’t be able to do.
After being diagnosed with cancer in 2012, Chris Palmer was informed he would never walk again and immediately he vowed that he would find a way to walk his daughter down the aisle. Thanks to Heather spotting an article one day about a bionic suit, this vow became a reality and both Chris Halls and his now wife Heather will always be thankful to Rex Bionics, with a special thanks to Debra and Tom, for making this possible on their special day.
The West Mill resembled an underground rave ...
After an emotional day where more than just the Bride and Groom’s dreams were made, Chris and Heather’s wedding went on until the early hours, The West Mill resembled an underground rave rather than the civilised event atmosphere that it is used to, faces were sprinkled with glitter, amazing kitsch headpieces were donned and guests were asked to use the not so typical wedding hashtag #hallspalmermashup with any photos added to social media.
Chris Halls, sums up their day perfectly with the following quote: “Our wedding day was everything we expected and more. We had the best day of our lives and wish we could do it all over again! Watching Chris, Heather’s Dad, walking Heather towards me was something special and everyone was very emotional, including me! The atmosphere in the room and throughout the day was electric and it was amazing to see our family and friends so happy! We can’t thank REX Bionics and our suppliers enough for all their help and support in making it happen!”
I for one am so inspired by the way you celebrated your special day
I of course wish Heather and Chris a very happy married life together and thank them for sharing their special day with me for my first blog with Save the Date Magazine. Your smiles are infectious and I couldn’t help but smile the whole time I wrote this.
It’s safe to say if your wedding is anything to go by that your lives are going to be filled with fun and I for one am so inspired by the way you celebrated your special day.
Until next time, Jenn x
