A fun and relaxed country wedding
Newlyweds Greg & Abigail opted for a relaxed, fun and romantic celebration at The Kedleston Country House - one of our favourite wedding venues here at Save the Date Magazine HQ. Get stuck into their special day and find out all about how their wedding unfolded…
TELL US ABOUT YOUR VENUE…
“As soon as we walked into The Kedleston we knew it was the venue for us, (dream country house goals!). The doggy curtain fabric helped to seal the deal too! We instantly felt relaxed and at home and the surrounding countryside views added to the whole setting. The Kedleston is such a nice venue for a chilled out wedding, it’s got the perfect vibe and the decor means not too much else is needed.”
DESCRIBE THE STYLE OF YOUR WEDDING…
“We really just wanted our wedding to be – full of good fun, relaxed, and a chance to really spend time with everyone. Nothing fussy just clean and simple styling with a few subtle touches. I knew I wanted my bridesmaids in white as I just love white and think it looks so stylish and elegant and found the perfect classic style dress that they both looked so stunning in! I opted for a simple cowl neck gown, topped off with confetti effect poppy veil. We all set our look off with a bold red lip, and eucalyptus and herb bouquets made by the Mother of the Bride. I really just wanted to flowers to look like they had just been picked and didn’t want anything too fixed, just relaxed and free flowing (hopefully like the atmosphere on the day).
Greg went for a bold plum Paul Smith suit, teamed with Prada shoes, and had his best men in were in navy tuxedos. Although we went quite formal with the outfits we had so much fun and weren’t restricted at all! Formal wear doesn’t have to equal formal attitude!
The whole day was exactly what we wanted – relaxed, fun, and all about spending time with family! During the daytime, everything was relaxed elegant and beautiful. There were succulents and herbs on the tables, copper accents, macarons on the cake, and even a little fondant Angus (Angus is our beloved chocolate cocker spaniel) since he couldn’t be there in person we thought he could sit on top of our cake. I walked up the aisle to ‘Right Here, Right Now’ by Fatboy Slim, which gave a little hint of things to come in the evening. The Kedleston is such a nice venue for a chilled out wedding, it’s got the perfect vibe and the decor means not too much else is needed.
Now for the evening. We love a good rave-up, and we were lucky enough to have our good friend on DJ duty, he had even expertly remixed a club classic to include our new surname as a surprise for our guests! The party was soon in full swing, and there were some excellent shapes being thrown on the dance floor.”
WHAT DID EVERYBODY EAT AND DRINK?
“We had two menu choices I chose my favourite food and greg chose his and we let our guests decided who’s menu they fancied.
To Start – Haggis Potato Cakes
Main – Sausage & Mash
Spiced Lentil Soup
For the desert we both agreed that a traditional Bakewell tart with amaretto ice-cream & custard would be a hit! For our reception drinks we went with a blush prosecco which was light and fresh and as Greg isn’t really a fan of fizz he picked his favourite tipple Macallan Single Malt which went down really well with our guests! For our non-drinking guests and pregnant friends we asked them to make a fun & fruity pink mocktail.”
HOW DID YOU ENTERTAIN YOUR GUESTS?
“We didn’t really go down the entertainment root, we kept it simple with a good old fashioned disco and then rave into the early hours of the morning! We are pretty big music fans so we made sure we hand-picked songs that really meant a lot to us and brought back great memories shared together and with friends.”
ANY WORDS OF ADVICE FOR FUTURE BRIDES & GROOMS?
“Remember it’s your day so enjoy every single second! Little things might not quite go to plan or the way you thought but nobody will notice! Just go with it! Everyone kept telling us the day will go so quickly, and it does! Take time to look around the room and take in all the faces in the room. There is so much love sent your way on your wedding day so soak it all up! Your guests will be wanting your full attention for the whole day too which is so lovely, but if you can, sneak a couple of minutes away with your new husband or wife. Greg & I managed to sneak out onto the balcony in-between courses while our guests where eating just to say ‘hello’ to each other. Those couple of minutes just us two together where very special. Then you can go back in and resume being centre of attention.
I would also say choose a photographer that you get on with and feel totally relaxed around. We were so lucky to find Jill, she totally got us both and understood how Greg and I interacted together. I would highly recommend a pre-wedding shoot too, it gives you chance to get to know each other and get rid of any nervous twitches so on the big day you don’t have to worry about “posing” or feeling awkward. We talked about what kinds of shots we would like but Jill also came up with a few things we hadn’t even thought of. Your photographer is with you and your guests for the whole day, and not once did I feel uncomfortable around Jill and her camera. I was totally camera shy before our pre- wedding shoot and Jill cured me. Not only did we think she was totally amazing, but so did our guests!”
