"Once it's over, you'll want to do it all over again!"

“Our ceremony took place on 2nd December 2016 at St Mary’s Church followed by a formal wedding breakfast set inside the church. Our evening reception took place at The Lace Market Hotel just across the road where guests enjoyed a bespoke buffet and live music.

We had always said we wanted something unique, traditional and personal to us, and it was whilst walking by the church one evening that my husband David suggested St Mary’s. Dave lived in The Lace Market for many years and the area is very special to us – after some enquiries we established that we were able to marry there. I also found out that the church would allow us to hire the space inside to stage our wedding breakfast – it all came together perfectly.

Our colour scheme was gold and blush and I hand made a lot of the decorations and purchased many of the props myself, including winter LED birch trees and table decorations.

My wedding favours were handmade by Rose Press. I asked Nicola to design me something which I thought was impossible (a mini Mendl’s patisserie box from our favourite film The Grand Budapest Hotel) but she ‘rose’ to the challenge and the results were beyond perfect. Yummy Little Cakes filled each one with macaroons too! I needed something quite simple but ‘wow’ to go inside the church – I hired a LOVE sign from Love in my Life which was absolutely perfect for that space and Dani was so helpful, moving the sign across to the hotel dance floor in the evening and also decorating the hotel restaurant for me. A personal touch we added in was having our French Bulldog at the wedding ceremony for photos – if you’re a dog owner you’ll know this question, ‘who’s having the dog?’ Hurley’s Wedding Day Dogs was the answer! Michelle collected him and brought him to the church in a dickie bow tie made by Hufton Hound and Home, then afterwards, whisked him away and looked after him all night! He even got take home treats!

Don't stress and enjoy every second!

My dress was Pippin Wtoo from Carla’s Brides. The style and unusual lace detail fit the Art Deco/20’s feel I wanted perfectly. Bridesmaid’s dresses were from ASOS. The men’s suits were from Marks & Spencer – David wanted something that was a little different yet still traditional – the wool and colour was just right. Hair was by Rosie at Everyones Looking Rosie– Rosie is amazing at what she does and so dedicated to her craft. She helped me to find the perfect hairstyle – modern but with a hint of 1920’s style. The bridesmaids had a chignon style and Rosie gave each one a different twist! Make up was by Claire Elizabeth – Claire is super-talented – I loved my make up and the bridesmaids all looked gorgeous too! I made my own headdress and arm cuff using Nottingham lace, and also my bridesmaids’ hairclips – I got so many compliments on the day that I have actually just started a small business to sell my handmade creations (Instagram @featherslace.)

Catering for the wedding breakfast was by Fiona Herbert – incredible food and service. Guests enjoyed a glass of fizz during the wedding photography and then sat down for a three course meal of Twice Baked Lincolnshire Poacher Soufflé, Breast of Guinea Fowl and a Trio of puddings for dessert, served with white and red wine. Fiona and the team supplied tables, chairs and everything you could possibly need – even down to the gold under plates I wanted to match the gold theme. In the evening guests enjoyed a bespoke Christmas buffet in the Lace Market Hotel. The team at the hotel helped me to create the perfect menu of nibbles and sweet treats for 90 guests including Christmas Yule Log and handmade sausage rolls. Our wedding cake was made by Nat at Yummy Little Cakes – Nat created the perfect blush and gold cake for us, topped with our initials cake topper made by Polly and Me  and completed with a feather and beaded cake sash made by me.

In the evening, The Burgandy’s got our guests on the dance floor. Our first dance was to Fleetwood Mac – Everywhere, and then we enjoyed two sets of fabulous live music from Rob and the band. We also hired a ‘photo pod’ from Mish at Wedding Pods. It was wonderful and our guests had great fun with the props in front of the camera.

My advice to brides would be don’t stress and enjoy every second! Once it’s over, you’ll want to do it all over again”.
