Introduction

A Pretty Pastel wedding at the Carriage Hall

We love it when we discover a bride has pulled her wedding together using a great bunch of talented wedding suppliers who we know and work with. It's even better when the wedding is AMAZING and our trusty wedding suppliers come up trumps. This wedding proves just that. From the venue to the band, the florist to the cake maker, we have worked with pretty much all of the suppliers who Rebekah used for her wedding and can safely say, they are without a doubt, the cream of the crop. Here's the lovely bride Rebekah to tell us all about it;

"Brian and I had a clear vision from the start that we wanted our wedding to be classic and romantic in its style whilst reflecting our personality and the things we love most. Our amazing suppliers brought our ideas to life and we cannot thank them enough!

We got married at St Giles Church in West Bridgford Nottingham, I could not have imagined getting married anywhere else so it was a very special moment for me.

The Venue

The Carriage Hall was the first venue we viewed and we instantly fell in love with its striking and contemporary appearance. The hall provides a great canvas for any style of wedding with beautiful red brick walls and wooden beams, it really was so unique to any wedding venue we had seen before.

Flowers became such a focal point to our wedding and we used them as the main part of our decor. We used the very talented Michele Gledhill to create them and she did the most incredible job. I wanted the flowers and the colour of them to create a romantic style so opted for lots of ivory and blush pink hydrangea with a hint of roses.

There were a number of personal touches that we brought into our wedding in order to stamp our personality onto the day and make our guests feel important to us. We left advice cards with a complimentary drink at the hotel for our guests who travelled from afar to be with us. This went down really well and we were happy that our guests could explore the local confidently. On the day we incorporated our love for the Lakes District with our Lake Windermere table plan. We both love the area and our table names were our favourite pubs located on the map of the lake.

Brian and I wanted our love for music to play a big part in the wedding. We chose Kezia Gill as our arrival singer, she played an acoustic set for our arrival drinks and canapés and through our wedding breakfast. She was playing as we arrived at our venue and her and our guests gave us the most amazing welcome! For our evening entertainment we chose The Burgundy’s and it was an excellent choice! They played our first dance, which was their own take of the Ray LaMontagne & Damien Rice version of “To Love Somebody”. All of our guests joined us on the dance floor singing along with us and it was a very special moment.

We really wanted our photographs to capture the emotion of the day. We first saw Simon’s work when we went to visit The Carriage Hall, what we liked so much about his photography is that he manages to capture the emotion and honesty of a moment so perfectly. He did exactly that for our wedding, we have so many lovely natural images that completely capture the happiness of our day.

"I wanted to create a romantic style so opted for lots of ivory and blush pink hydrangea with a hint of roses"

“A big factor in deciding on our venue was that we wanted it to be close to the church we got married in as we had a lot of guests travelling long distances to celebrate with us. The Carriage Hall was the first venue we viewed and we instantly fell in love with its striking and contemporary appearance. The hall provides a great canvas for any style of wedding with beautiful red brick walls and wooden beams, it really was so unique to any wedding venue we had seen before. Mel made us feel so welcome from our first visit and Debs and her team did a great job of ensuring that everything ran perfectly on the day.

I wanted the flowers and the colour of them to create a romantic style so opted for lots of ivory and blush pink hydrangea with a hint of roses. My bridesmaids and flower girl carried blush pink hydrangea bouquets and my bouquet was a large neat hand tied bouquet with ivory hydrangeas and blush pink roses. Decorating the arch of the church has become a tradition at our family weddings and I really wanted it to create an impact, Michele took my vision for this and made it simply stunning. I wanted all our guests to join in the confetti moment so ordered 10 litres of throwing confetti in candy floss from Shropshire petals I completely underestimated how much confetti there would be but it made for a really great moment.

The Carriage Hall didn’t need much dressing and we wanted the venue to speak for itself, so in addition to the flowers and styling from Michele we added the little details mainly through our stationery. Our stationery followed a theme using a mixture of romantic and modern font in greys and pinks to compliment the romantic and classic style we were wanting to create. Brian proposed to me at Lake Windermere and it is a place we have been visiting together for years so we really wanted to incorporate this somewhere in the day. We gave the stationer we used {Victoria’s Paperie} a brief and list of our favourite pubs in the Lake District and she transformed our ideas into a beautiful table plan. We had Instagram signs scattered around the venue asking our guests to “share the love” on social media and a guestbook sign instructing our guests how to use our photo booth area. Our favours were a mixture of champagne and sea salt caramel Charbonnel et Walker truffles for the girls and for the boys we had miniatures, we spent time making sure that they were all given their favourite spirit. We found Doris Loves online and used their light up letters on the mezzanine of the Carriage Hall, we wanted to use this space to create a focal point and they looked great over-looking the dance floor on the evening. We also bought personalised cushions from not on the high street to furnish the seating area.

"It’s true what they say it really is the best day ever!!"

Living in the North East but getting married at home in Nottingham I took advantage of searching lots of bridal shops in both places for the perfect dress. I had a vague idea of the kind of dress that might suit me but tried lots of different styles on to make sure. I was adamant I didn’t want lace or to wear a veil, in the end I wore both…! I bought my White One by Pronovias dress from Grace Couture in Nottingham. I loved the shape of the dress and the lace detailing and it fit the romantic and classic style I was wanting. Cassie and Susan at Grace Couture were extremely patient and accommodating when at my second dress fitting I decided I wanted to add a spaghetti strap and lower the back of the dress. Susan did a fantastic job to such a high standard and I am so glad that I made those changes.

We looked for ages for a wedding band to compliment my engagement ring but just drew a blank, there was nothing that was right. Six months before the wedding my mum showed me an eternity ring which my great granny had left to her when she passed away. It was a stunning white gold band with white sapphires, I tried it on and it fit perfectly and looked beautiful set against my engagement ring. It holds so much sentiment and I think it was just meant to be. I had two bridesmaids my sister Hannah and best friend Ashleigh, they wore Two Birds dresses in platinum. After having a good look in both bridal shops and on the high street I loved the versatility of these dresses and the colour looked beautiful on both of them. They both decided which way they wanted to tie them on the day and did this differently to a style they both felt comfortable in. Our flower girl, my little sister Freya wore a gorgeous lace Monsoon dress with matching cardigan, I liked that this dress wasn’t your typical flower girl dress but still tied in with our pink and grey theme.

We originally set out to have a 3 tier wedding cake but once we had sampled Lynne’s banoffee cake we knew we had to add an extra tier. The top tier was a traditional fruit cake the second tier was our favourite, carrot cake the third was banoffee and for the bottom tier we went for a vanilla madagascan sponge. The cake was decorated with fresh flowers and we had a cake sign created which sat next to it on the table. On arrival at the venue guests were treated to a welcome drink of either a Bellini for the girls and Peroni for the boys. We decided on a selection of canapes including smoked cheddar and red onion mini pasties & smoked Salmon crostini’s, at this point the sun came out and our guests enjoyed these on the terrace. The Carriage Hall is renowned for its food and it did not disappoint. All guests were given a menu to choose from in their invite. We had amazing feedback from our guests, they particularly loved the beef!

Advice to future brides & grooms

My biggest piece of advice would be to choose great suppliers and build good relationships with them. Without their input and advice our wedding would not have been the same and we genuinely loved meeting and working with them all.

Finally, it’s true what they say it really is the best day ever!! One of the moments that we will never ever forget is towards the end of the night when the band were singing Oasis “Don’t look back in anger”. All our family and friends gathered around us on the dance floor singing their hearts out, so happy to be celebrating with us – it was the perfect end to the day.”
