You light up my life!
Today, we introduce our guest blogger – the lovely Karen from Darby and Joan. The queen of wedding styling, Karen is our ‘go to’ girl when it comes to creating that WOW factor at a wedding and here she is today with her first blog installment …. over to you Karen:
Lighting – All important, sometimes overlooked and can be a pretty simple and cost effective way of adding atmosphere to your venue.
As we enter Autumn it seems the perfect time to share some lighting ideas with you. If your wedding is in the afternoon, you may only have two or three hours of daylight before the sun sets and you can get creative with your glow.
Whether you are thinking romantic, intimate and cosy or modern, fun and colourful, we hope you find something here to suit your day.
Set the scene by adding some lights to the outside area as well as the inside of your venue.
Stringing fairy lights around or between trees or gate posts, pop some lanterns on the ground to make a pathway, hang simple jam jars with tealights from anywhere you can hook them – all inexpensive and pretty simple to do.
The big lit up fairground type wooden lettering has become really popular over the last couple of years and we love these! Have your initials spelt in festoon lighting or if your venue would struggle with supplying power to these, you could go for the candle lit option, just as effective and looks spectacular.
Look at the LOVE sign people who have this wooden candle lit beauty for hire and watch this space as they will soon have more. https://www.facebook.com/LOVEsign
Sparklers are good fun and can make for lots of great photographs.
Simple candles in glass tealight holders are always a winner for us. Cluster them together when the sun goes down.
A few of our weddings for 2013 have featured paper lanterns with a LED light popped inside. This is so easy to create and a very cost effective option for adding a light glow around your dance floor or your tables.
Fairy lights, fairy lights, fairy lights – go wild with them.
If you have ever visited a Save the Date Wedding Event with a Difference, then no doubt you will have been bowled over by the venue dressing and the fabulous fabric draping and lighting that is used for the catwalk shows. Happily this is supplied by a local company, Fabric Theatre, and they have masses of experience and products to hire if you would like to call in the experts. This was at Bawdon Lodge Farm open day recently where the girls transformed the barn with their lighting and skill.
Will you be choosing any of these ideas for your wedding? We’d love to know. Pop by our Pinterest board for more inspiration.
