Take a peek at Iconic Bride
Wedding dress shopping is one of the most exciting parts of wedding planning and it’s something that Angela, owner of appointment-only Iconic Bride, is truly passionate about. We’re having a nosey inside this ultra-stylish bridal studio in Nottinghamshire…
Tell us about the average day at Iconic Bride
There is no “average” day at Iconic Bride and that is one of the best things about being bridal. Whilst most days may see us busy with bridal appointments, our week can consist of anything from meeting fantastic industry suppliers, collaborating on styled shoots through to exhibiting at local wedding fayres or enjoying a cup of tea whist placing orders. Not forgetting that throughout the bridal calendar we can also be found travelling to Harrogate, London and even hopping on a plane for a much-enjoyed trip to Barcelona bridal week to view and choose exciting new collections for the boutique.
Tell us about the designers that grace the rails of Iconic Bride
Our bridal edit has been lovingly created choosing from some of the best known and leading designers in bridal. Our couture offering features bridal gowns from Knightsbridge designer Caroline Castigliano. We find that our Caroline brides have been in mind a classical bridal style for their big day with exquisite and sumptuous fabrics being at the heart of their lovingly crafted gown. Caroline’s style of bridal wear is to design signature silhouette gowns that are unquestionably feminine and effortlessly stylish, allowing confidence to exude. They are the perfect choice for contemporary brides.
For brides seeking and elusive blend of elegance and allure our newly arrived addition to the boutique meets the brief perfectly. Bringing the Barcelona heat to the boutique with jaw-dropping designs and crisp ivory fabrics makes us especially excited to see what the latest class of newly engaged brides will make of our highly desirable Rosa Clara collection. We feel these gowns will work beautifully in venues both around the county and overseas.
As always a solid performer for us is our Sophia Tolli gowns, which are perfect for brides who love the glamour and cut of daring necklines, beaded and lace appliqued bodices and detailed illusion backs. You can very well say a Sophia Tolli bride is not afraid to bring the wow factor to her wedding day.
Completing our collection is boho—inspired, fashion edgy, destination favourite bridal gown brand Wtoo by Watters. With rustic themed weddings now so in vogue, this collection really captures the imagination of those brides seeking a less traditional bridal look. The use of daring figure hugging illusion style, soft, delicate, floaty Alines and ruffled one-pieces on offer, these gowns offer the very best in style and diversity. Colour options are a particular signature feature of this gorgeous collection.
What can brides expect from their experience at Iconic Bride?
Being an Iconic Bride means being part of the Iconic Bride family. That starts from the moment of introduction. We aim to make you feel at ease and relaxed to enjoy your appointment with us. Our brides tend to thank us for our openness, honesty and paying attention to the small things such as that welcome refreshment on arrival. We go above and beyond to ensure our brides remain the focus and centre of their appointment; this is particularly important if there is an excited bridal party accompanying them and lots of opinions are flying around. We offer our brides exclusive use of our gorgeous boutique for their appointment and make a commitment that quality and style is at the heart of everything we do. There is a designated bridal room for the bride to use, we provide a designated stylist for the appointment whilst the bride’s guests can sit back, relax and enjoy refreshments until the bride is ready to showcase her choices.
What inspired the design and décor of Iconic Bride?
With so many gorgeous shops around it was important that our boutique had the “boutique feel”. That meant converting a once dark and rustic coffee shop into a bright and luxurious space. We got creative with lots of glass; putting in a gorgeous glass balustrade staircase and furnishing with big antique mirrors, lots of lighting and plush mauve velvet accessories. Our boutique is designed to elicit feelings of opulence, calm and intimacy. We want our brides to feel pampered, unique and special.
What inspired you to start up a bridal boutique business?
A personal one. I married in 2012 and whilst searching for my own wedding dress I was surprised by the mixed experiences I had. I guess you could say I became slightly overwhelmed by the whole process and now looking back, in all honesty (and I tell brides this all the time), you wouldn’t have wanted me as your bride! I was just so indecisive. However, what I loved the most was the incredible time I spent with close friends and family and combined with my love of fashion and a long-hidden secret to having my own business; Iconic Bride was born. It has been a complete leap of faith setting up Iconic Bride, as a previous nurse / midwife I had always enjoyed the close support of colleagues around me and now suddenly it was just all down to me. What I have found is that all the skills and mind set in my past career has really helped me that small leap of faith and self-belief will soon see us celebrating our 4th birthday.
What’s your no 1 tip for brides who are about to start searching for their dress?
My top tip is to enjoy the process. I honestly don’t think there is a wrong way of bridal shopping. I would warn that expectations can influence the experience you have so my advice is to be kind to yourself – after all, how often do you shop for such a special dress! Bridal is not like high street so let go of ideas about sizes, use your knowledge of your body shape to inform your thoughts and choice and have fun! We find an entourage of 2-3 people whose opinions you value but won’t overrun your own thoughts is the perfect recipe for finding your dream dress.
