Pure Escapism at Ford House

Ford House NorfolkAlong with moving house and having a baby, planning your wedding and getting married has been said to be one of the most stressful periods of a person’s life. The nerves, anticipation and general build up to that all important day can leave you feeling totally and utterly bewildered after the day itself. This is the time when you need to experience pure escapism.

Somewhere where you and your partner can get away from it all and bask in the delights of newly married life. Obviously, a honeymoon is the perfect tonic but if you’re planning to wait a little while for your honeymoon (maybe due to saving the pennies or guaranteeing the sunshine at your ideal destination) then a UK getaway or mini-moon as it is now affectionately being referred to is just what you need.

I recently had the pleasure of experiencing a mini-moon haven, a place where your troubles melt like lemon drops, a true sanctuary where relaxation is top of the agenda – Ford House in Docking, Norfolk. Having followed this beautiful, quaint cottage on Instagram for several months, I knew it was going to be special. Owner, Amanda has a real eye for style and her gallery of images on Instagram are an interior designer’s fans dream. This woman seriously knows how to style a room and Ford House is just a joy.

Arriving on a wet and windy Tuesday, this romantic bolt hole nestled in a cute Norfolk hamlet still managed to blow me away when we pulled onto the drive. For anyone who appreciates interiors and design, you would understand why. With a fisherman pendant light hanging above the entrance and a charming farmhouse style front door, from the second you arrive, you know you’re in for a treat. Once inside this beautiful cottage, it’s surprisingly spacious. Striking a good balance between cosy and intimate but with plenty of space and room, the huge farmhouse kitchen complete with Aga, Smeg fridge and even dog biscuits for well behaved dogs and a sweetie jar for well behaved children, is a real highlight.

From the roaring log fire in the living room to the gorgeous roll top bath in the bathroom, the calming colour scheme throughout and the cute and quirky little extra touches, Ford House really does feel like a home from home. You immediately feel a sense of calm, the perfect ‘escape from it all’ relaxing haven. Amanda has thought of everything. There are Plum & Ashby toiletries in the bathrooms, a huge basket of board games by the fire, underfloor heating keeping you nice and toasty and we were so touched by the amazing hamper we discovered when we arrived filled with local produce, wines and even cookies for our daughter. It’s those extra touches which make Ford House stand out.

In terms of location, the cottage sits in the sleepy village of Docking; the ideal base for exploring all that Norfolk has to offer. On your doorstep, you’ll find stunning beaches like Holkham which spread for miles, pretty market towns such as Burnham Market and fabulous days out at places like Sandringham and Wells next the Sea. The upmarket village of Thornham is also just next door (a 10 minute drive) offering an award winning restaurant, gastro pubs, a superb deli, Eric’s fish and chips and quaint shops.

For those of you just married, it is the perfect mini-moon getaway. You can wake up the day after your wedding, say goodbye to your guests, pack up the car and just drive to this hidden little gem in the Norfolk countryside. Ford House – the most perfect, intimate escape for those wanting to get away from it all and soak up each other’s company in delightful surroundings. The ultimate stress reliever.
