Rushy Meadows

Back in July, Me & Ash had a few days holiday and we wanted some time to relax!  Recently engaged and with our wedding booked {1st September 17 – eeek} we needed to watch our pennies so a holiday abroad was out of the question! On the hunt for somewhere to stay, I came across these beautiful, quaint huts on canopy & stars and thought a few days in the Cotswolds would be just perfect!

So on 12th July we headed on down to the pretty Cotswolds and had our fingers crossed the British weather would be kind to us!  As we drove down the winding country lanes, we were met by the lovely Ali, whose family own the organic City Farm where the huts are located.  We followed Ali further into the wild farmland until we saw the Kingfisher Hut which stood proud amongst the bull rushers, wild grass and large lake.

After a little tour of the amenities, Ali left us to our adventure.  She really had thought of everything! Each hut comes complete with a mini vintage outdoor kitchen with a small gas stove and amenities such as tea, coffee, sugar, oil etc.  Inside the hut there is everything you need too; a log burner in case you get a little nippy {we were fine in July!} a small selection of games, guide books,  retro radio and a double bed piled high with fluffy cushions!  Over a small wooden bridge across the stream our outdoor heated shower and flushing toilet was located.  What more could you need?!

Before we explored further, we sat and enjoyed homemade cakes courtesy of Ali’s mum with a nice cup of tea. Surrounded by long grass fields and the sounds of nature, within an hour we both felt relaxed.  Prior to arriving, we had read that there was a rowing boat called ‘Peggy Sue’!  We were quick to take Peggy Sue for a punt around the lake and explored the wet lands.

After a little more exploring, we had a walk around the farm and nestled around the corner {but out of sight} was the Heron Hut, painted in the prettiest of sage green colours. Then a little further into the woods was the Wagtail Hut – each with their own amenities.

During the day, Ash perfected his rowing skills whilst I lazed around reading a book.  In the evening we took a stroll across the fields and down the wild flowered lanes to a couple of local pubs and enjoyed homemade pub grub. Returning to the Kingfisher Hut we lit the fire pit and enjoyed watching the bats fly around and toasted marshmallows!

On our second day, after a leisurely morning of cooking our breakfast in the outdoor kitchen, we ventured out to the picturesque Cotwolds towns of Burford, Chipping Norton and Stow in the Wolds.  The houses and cottages around this area really are amazing! So quaint and pretty, each with their own character but they all fall in line with the same classic Cotswold stone and colours – pastel green and grey!  Farrow & Ball lovers, you will be in heaven here! I returned home wanting to repaint the garage doors!

Feeling relaxed after two nights, we said goodbye to the Kingfisher Hut we had fallen in love with and headed back home…

So, in a nutshell, if you’re looking for a relaxing couple of days away, to get away from it all then this is the place to visit; a magical and idyllic setting.

Or perhaps you’re looking for a mini moon after your big day, then this would be perfect too! When chatting with Ali at City Farm, she mentioned that she had also set up previous engagement picnics  – what a lovely idea!  To find out more about booking these hidden huts visit Canopy & Stars.
