Introducing…. Cottonwood Bakery
We are excited to welcome Cottonwood Bakery to our ‘Cream of the Crop’ supplier directory. As soon as we saw Helen’s cakes we knew they were special and we have a sneaky suspicion you’ll think the same … Here’s Helen to tell us more;
Tell us a little bit about your lovely cake business and where it all began.
I have loved baking for as long as I can remember (starting with pretending to present cookery shows with my sister as a little girl!) Knowing my love of cakes, a wonderful friend of mine asked me to bake for her cafes a few years ago and that’s when Cottonwood Bakery began. I added the wedding cake design to my business because I quickly realised that I had lots of creative ideas that I wanted to translate into larger cakes.
My cakes are different from others on offer in their design and in the different techniques that I use. But my love of baking influences my main wish; to provide cakes that taste amazing. (This comes from the many, many hours that I have spent perfecting the recipes.) I hope that I am giving modern brides and grooms something both unique and special for their wedding day.
What cake flavours do you offer?
I offer a huge range of flavours, all of which can be found on the Menu page of my website. Everything from Devil’s Food Chocolate or Lemon Zest to Hummingbird or Chocolate & Hazelnut. I am always open to new ideas too and am constantly trying new recipes.
What do you feel makes your service & cakes stand out from the crowd?
I am obsessed with studying cake designs and I hope that my total passion comes across in all stages of the wedding cake service that I offer. As well as providing traditional designs, my cakes are creative and unusual. They are stylish, modern and unique…and they will also be delicious. I am also a huge believer in a high quality of service so I take as much time as is necessary to create a couple’s perfect cake design. I make every cake is as if it’s my first.
Do you offer anything else in addition to cakes?
Yes, I do dessert tables with a huge choice of items as well as personalised wedding favours.
What do you love the most about being involved in the wonderful world of weddings?
I feel so lucky and honoured to be chosen to make someone’s wedding cake. To be involved in their big day is always so exciting and is something I take very seriously. I love putting together a design then seeing it through to the actual cake on the day. Every time, I think how amazing it is that to get to do something I am so passionate about.
Finally, what’s been the most popular cake choice of 2016 so far and what cake trends do you see for 2017?
In 2016, I’ve definitely seen a move in popularity from a totally “naked” cake to one that is semi-naked, so slightly covered in buttercream. I personally love this look. I think this will continue into 2017, along with using lots of fresh flowers and edible metallic leaf. I also think that brides will consider copper and silver next year as an alternative to the usual gold leaf designs.
