I thee wed – Richard & Jennifer
Richard & Jennifer from The Wedding Tree Company sent us some lovely images from their wedding last August and we just had to feature it on our blog! I pass you over now to Jennifer to answer all our usual fabulous I thee wed questions….
Where did you get married and what was it about the venue that sealed the deal?
At this point Richard hadn’t even proposed, it was June 5th 2010 and today was our daughters due date. It was a Saturday and to keep our minds off the fact that our baby should be arriving today, we went about our daily business as usual. No signs of labour were showing as yet, even after a super hot curry the night before and another 101 other old wives tales tried. So Richard joined his friend at a farmers market, that was taking place at a near by farm, and I joined them later that afternoon.
I always remember Richard’s first words to me, when I arrived at the farm, “Go and look at the barns!” at this point I was slightly baffled. Why did I need to look at the barns? This question was soon answered as I took my first step into the court yard and then in to the barns. This was where I was going to get married! Packington Moor. With its beautiful, rural surroundings and stunning timber framed buildings, this really was the venue of my dreams.
How would you describe the style of your wedding and what made you decide to go down that route?
After a busy six months as new parents, Christmas soon came a knocking and it was on Christmas day 2011 that Richard braved ‘the’ question and got down on one knee. Looking back the handmade oak frame, which surrounded the carefully selected printing press letters, reading ‘Will you marry me?’ This was the inspiration for the rest of our wedding day. After setting the date for the 26th August 2012 at Packington Moor, the planning began. English country garden was to be the theme and so I put Richard’s joinery skills to good use. Making many props and venue accessorises for the big day, including Willow dragonfly favors, oak frames for displaying photos and the table plan and our favourite creation our Oak wedding guest book plank!
Describe your dress and how you came about finding ‘the one’?
Everyone had said to me, you’ll end up with a totally different style dress to the one you originally think you want… and they were right! I wanted a slim fitting, Grecian style dress, however when I tired this style of dress on, it just wasn’t special enough. I’ve never been one for too much bling but I wanted something a little bigger and slightly more exciting than what felt like a white maxi dress, it was my wedding day after all!
After trying on a variety of wedding dresses in various shapes and styles, the more I looked the more confused I was. Until I spotted it, with its fitted body, fishtail bottom and flower detail, I had found ‘the one’. It was so ‘the one’ that even the one in the shop fitted perfectly, I ordered it there and then and looked no more.
Talk us through the suppliers you used for your wedding from stationery to cake, flowers to cars – was there anything quirky or creative which will inspire future brides?
Firstly can I say a massive thank you to all our suppliers who were involved in making our day so perfect, we couldn’t have done it with out them.
Venue and catering: Packington Moor wedding venue and Galloping Gourmet . The Staff at Packington and Galloping Gourmet bent over backwards to give us the day of our dreams. They ensured the day ran without a hitch, meaning we could enjoy every minute without having to worry about a thing. The whole day was seamless. The food was superb, many guest commented on the quality of the locally produced food and how wonderful the canapés and meal were.
Photographer: Stephen Hayes Wedding Photography Steve was recommended to us and we certainly weren’t disappointed. From the pre wedding engagement shoot to the last click of the camera at the evening reception, Steve captured our day perfectly from start to finish. A beautiful story without words. A definite recommendation.
Videographer: Shoot-it-yourself This is a must! We didn’t want a traditional, stuffy wedding video so we chose to shoot-it-ourselves. Our friends shot the video for us throughout the day and then the wonderfully, talented editors at Shoot-It-Yourself professionally edit the footage, adding our choice of music to the background.
Check it out, we love it!
Flowers and Cakes: Lynn Smith – Groom’s Godmother – We wanted natural looking flowers without too much over-styling and Richard’s Godmother created this perfectly, using seasonal lilac and purple flowers, giving the bouquets that freshly picked from the garden look. The Lavender butter icing on the homemade sponge cakes was also a real treat that tied the two together beautifully.
Magician: Chris Peskett .Once the wedding breakfast was over, evening guests began arriving, this was when our fantastic magician, Chris Pesket, started mingling with the crowd, it was a perfect way to bring guests together before the evening disco kicked off.
Any words of advice for future brides about planning your dream day?
Don’t over look the small things and the personal touches, that’s what our guests loved the most, the attention to detail.
Most of all, enjoy it, every bit of it, from the moment you start planning to the minute the last dance ends. Savour every moment of the big day and make time to take it all in.
The Start up of ‘The Wedding Tree Company’
Using Richard’s joinery skills and our passion for all things wooden we designed a range of wooden props, venue accessories and keepsakes to give our wedding the personal touch we both envisaged.
As our big day approached we realised just how endless the possibilities were. Menu boards and signs posts, wishing wells and favours to name but a few!
Our personal favourite though, is our oak wedding ‘guest book’ plank. After trawling the internet for hours, a paper guest book just wasn’t going to cut it. We wanted something unique and eye catching that could also be used as artwork in our home, giving us a quirky memento from our day.
Through planning our wedding we’ve were inspired to set up our company, “The Wedding Tree Company”, to provide other couples with one off, bespoke and totally personalised wooden creations too.
