James and Laura didn’t go for the classic traditional wedding! We asked Laura a few questions as to why and how they injected their personalities and loves into this not so run of the mill wedding.

Firstly, where and when did you get married?

We got married at Park Farmhouse hotel in Isley Walton, Castle Donington on the 20th August 2012.

What made you decide on your venue?

We viewed loads of venues which were either generic hotels or farms where you would have to have the evening reception in a marquee, which we didn’t want, but when we looked at Park Farmhouse we could have the whole day in the converted farm buildings which was a winner for us!

What was it like choosing your dress and had you always had your heart set on that style?

I always knew what style I wanted for a dress and I was lucky enough to have a friend (Mel Palmer) who wanted to start making vintage wedding dresses (Laced with Love), I was more than happy to be a guinea pig. I’m quite slack at getting myself into gear and it took me till July to meet up with Mel to discuss the dress, oops. Mel was amazing and got exactly what I wanted, she worked so quickly to get my dress ready on time. I picked the colour of the underskirt based on a pair of shoes I snagged on ebay.

Talk us through the theme and decor of the wedding.

We like sweets! So there had to be lots of those everywhere, which kind of dictated the colour scheme (every colour going) – J described it as a unicorn throwing up.. nice! We like the farmy feel so had gingham table runners and had plants on every table. My sister who was also the florist made a gorgeous mini greenhouse flowerbox for the top table.

Anything quirky and creative we should know about your wedding?

We decided to get tattooed during the reception, so we snuck upstairs to our room, where our friends had set up the machine and got our Mr and Mrs tattoos! There was a sweet shop with candy stripped bags set up at the reception and we also had a giant cheese board for after dinner. For evening enterainment we went for a Micheal Jackson tribute act! he he.
