On this sunny Wednesday, we bring you the beautiful wedding of Donna & Matt. Sarah from Mirror Imaging did such a great job with the photographs and they all look just stunning! We now hand you over to Donna herself to tell you all about her big day…

“Soon after our engagement, we decided we would hold our ceremony at St. Mary’s Church, Attenborough, a beautiful church on the edge of the nature reserve, followed by a reception at the Trent Building at the University of Nottingham.  As soon as we got engaged we knew we wanted to get married there as it is a wonderful building, set in a stunning location,  overlooking the lake.

The venue means a lot to us as it is near where we live and we spend most weekends taking our boys for walks around the lake and enjoying the fabulous gardens.  When we were shown around we were not disappointed and a huge bonus was having a wedding co-ordinator who was just amazing, she was fun, professional and thankfully much better  organised than we were!  In fact all the staff prior to and on the day of the wedding were great and we cannot praise them highly enough.

After our venue had been booked, it was time to talk to our photographer – again an easy decision. Sarah of Mirror Imaging had photographed me when I was pregnant and I had felt so relaxed with her and had been so pleased with the pictures that I knew instantly I wanted her to photograph our wedding.

Sarah is an amazing and talented photographer and such is her passion for her work and her dedication to her brides that she and Susan, who works with Sarah, agreed to meet me for lunch one day in the early stages, not just to talk photography, but to help me with ideas and planning the day in general.  Indeed they had rather more influence on our big day than I had imagined, they actually helped me to choose my dress!

Having trawled through many uninspiring pages of wedding magazines, I was struggling to find any dresses that I liked, however Jenny Packham was a name that kept popping up on the rare occasion I did see one that I liked.  Excited  upon realising that James Bride in Nottingham city centre stocks Jenny Packham I decided to take a quick look before meeting up with Sarah and Susan. It turned out to be one of the easiest shopping experiences of my life as I fell in love with the first dress I tried on.  Thinking it could not possibly be that easy, a bottle of Prosecco later and we were hotfooting it back to the shop for another try where, with a tear in her eye, Sarah confirmed the dress was definitely very ‘me’ and was without a doubt ‘the one’!  It was a beautiful champagne silk, cut so perfectly it was possibly the most comfortable dress I have ever worn.  I finished it off with a floor length veil, which really did complete the look and was perfect for the church ceremony.

Although there was no theme as such to our wedding, my beautiful Jenny Packham dress could not help but now set the tone for the day – it was to be a simple and laid back, but definitely a glamorous affair!  In keeping with this loose theme, Matt chose to wear a tux, having it made in navy by a tailor in Nottingham, that way he would stand out from the guests who we had also invited to wear black tie.

Next on our list was the florist and quickly VAAS were hired.  Having no idea what kind of flowers we wanted we put our trust completely in them, let them come up with the ideas, and they did a fantastic job.  Marc even came to the bridal shop to see me in my dress so he could create my bouquet accordingly.  Both the church and the reception venue were so beautiful in their own right that they needed very little embellishment, so we kept it simple with silver and gold foliage in large urns, and very grand silver candelabra with foliage on each table.  The effect was stunning and totally in keeping with the day.

Shireen did an amazing job of my hair and make-up, and coupled with my dress and Jimmy Choos, I really did feel like a princess!  Sarah arrived early to capture us getting ready, and then it was time for Dad and I to get into Dennisson Classic Cars white jaguar which would take us to church.   The car was a real beauty and the owner Jo, was terrific.  She had a very calm manner and had thought of everything….tissues, mirror, tic tacs!

We met my bridesmaids outside the church, and whilst standing in the doorway we could hear the Male Voice Choir that we had organised as a tribute to my Welsh roots.  They sounded incredible, and as my Dad walked me down the aisle they sang a rousing rendition of ‘Gwahoddiad’, a beautiful Welsh hymn.

Matt looked so handsome in his navy tux and looked quite emotional as I walked down the aisle.  Thankfully he absolutely loved the dress.  The wedding ceremony was prefect and atmosphere created by all our friends and family, accompanied by the choir, was incredible.  For us this was the most important part of the day and everything else was a bonus.

After the meal the evening guests arrived and Matt and I took to the dance floor with our first dance, the slightly unusual choice of ‘You Really Got Me’ by The Kinks.  We love the song and thought the lyrics were prefect, and our band, The Atlantics, performed it brilliantly.  From that point on we hardly left the dance floor all night and were the last ones to leave the Great Hall at 12.30am when all our other guests had gone.  We really did not want our beautiful and special day to end.

My advice to future brides would be to buy the best dress you can afford as all eyes really are on you (sorry grooms!) and with the right dress, you will feel like a princess or a film star for the day!  You will probably receive more compliments than your ego can cope with but just lap it up!  Good food, drink and entertainment are also important as these are key to keeping your guests happy and these are things they will remember.  Make sure you use professional suppliers that you trust and they will do most of the work and the worrying for you, so do not be afraid to leave it to them!  Finally get the best photographer you can and one that you bond with as they can make you look like a million dollars, and the photos they take will be the lasting memories of your day.”
