Hen weekend haven ….
When I was planning my hen weekend (this time two years ago, can’t quite believe it!) I was really pulled between staying in England or hopping on a plane and soaking up some sun (and sangria) before the big day ….
If I was totally honest with myself, I knew that I’d prefer to be somewhere in England – I am much more of a cute cottage kind of girl than a hard core party goer. There are plenty of ‘destination’ hen weekends I considered – Barcelona (never been and always fancied it), Marbella and Monte Carlo however, every time I looked into them, something stopped me from booking. Could I be bothered with all the travel ‘faff’? The logistics of getting 16 giggling girls from Nottingham to Monte Carlo sent me into a mild panic. Plus, I had enough on with organising my actual wedding.
Then, when Mr B decided to go abroad for his stag, I really did feel that I should just make the effort and go for it. After all, you only get one shot at this hen malarkey so you might as well make it one to remember. Surely that meant going abroad, didn’t it?
I was just about to send out the obligatory ‘Party Plane – get onboard’ email to my lovely list of ladies when I stumbled across Acacia Cottages. Now, this website had me written all over it. Their strapline, ‘Hen parties with a touch of class’. The images of their gorgeous little cottages. The tailor made packages including spa days, cocktail classes, chefs and afternoon teas. Oh yes. Needless to say, the ‘Party Plane – get onboard’ email never got sent and I got straight on the phone to the fabulous team over at Acacia Cottages.
An hour later, it was booked. Simple as that. I had got us a cottage just outside of Bath (somewhere I’d been wanting to go for ages) and had an itinerary booked and sorted. I still worried I’d made a mistake by not going somewhere ‘hot’ but went with my instinct and had the following itinerary planned:
Friday – Arrive and settle in (we got a Tesco food delivery, drank copious amounts and danced along to the ipod till the small hours)
Saturday – Mini bus to collect us all and take us into Bath. Have lunch and spend the day shopping and meeting Ronnie Wood (yay, a celebrity spot on my hen weekend, bonus!)
Evening – Acacia Cottages have organised a mini bus to take us into Bath for the evening, a 3 course meal in a local Italian restaurant which was gorgeous and a return mini bus at 2am. My sister gives me a list of tasks for the evening (I actually sang to a bald man in the middle of a crowd bar. Cringe is not the word.) I had a whistle, L plates and a blow up man who we named Ken. Best night ever 🙂
Sunday – 16 very hungover ladies are collected again by mini bus (organised by Acacia Cottages) and taken to the thermal spa in Bath. Here, we chill out in the rooftop pool and take to the steam room to get rid of our fuzzy heads – this place is one of the most unique and stylish spas I’ve been to. We then head for lunch in a local restaurant (again all pre arranged) before heading back to the cottage.
That evening, I am locked in my bedroom whilst my sister and cousin ‘theme’ the cottage for tonight’s antics. I am given a grass skirt, a garland and flower hair piece – the cottage was ‘transformed’ into Hawaii (well not quite but you get the gist). Acacia Cottages had then organised for a cocktail flarer to arrive and teach us the skills of perfecting a french martini all whilst getting rather tipsy.
Once the poor cocktail guy leaves (can you imagine, 16 women and him) it’s time for the games to commence. Pin the hose on the fireman, potato swinging and shots for the losers …. this was our last night and believe me, we made the most of it.
Monday came (May bank holiday too) and it was home time 🙁
I had THE BEST hen weekend and couldn’t recommend Acacia Cottages highly enough. Not only were they professional and reliable, the package was such good value for money:
3 nights in a 5 star cottage in Bath + 3 course dinner at a trendy Italian restaurant + mini bus transfers the entire weekend into and out of Bath + entrance to the spa + lunch in Bath + cocktail masterclass! = £200 per person
I am so pleased I stuck with my instinct and went with what I fancied and not what I thought I should be doing. Whether you’d love a hen weekend drinking cocktails in the Spanish sun, a day hiking in the Lake District or an afternoon with tea and cake, as long as you’ve got your fave girlies around, you will undoubtedly have the best time.
And here’s a few pics ….
And proof we met Ronnie Wood ….
Happy hen weekend!
