A very popular trend we are seeing more and more of are outdoorsy, boho, festival themed weddings. This theme is usually adopted by music festival lovers who enjoy nothing more than wearing their Hunter wellies, risking the temperamental British weather and dancing under the stars. If you are a laid back couple and prefer a more down to earth, relaxed atmosphere then this could be the theme for you!

The festival theme works best in the Spring/Summer time as the weather will be warmer and the sun will set later in the evening. These conditions are ideal for a festival themed wedding as your guests may be spending the day outside or in tents – not very fun in the cold and rain (although as you know, you can never be certain of sunshine in any month but the odds are definitely more in your favour).

When planning your wedding you can have hints of festival or you can go all out and make everything from your dress to the cake just scream festival.

To get this boho style theme started, your wedding stationary could be designed to look like festival posters. When your guests arrive you could give them festival paper wrist bands or lanyards.

For a festival inspired bride, your dress would be very bohemian, very light and floaty with little structure. As well as being in-keeping with the theme, this style of dress would be most comfortable, especially if it’s a hot and sunny day. With this theme you can get away with a hairstyle that isn’t perfect. Just like your dress, have your hair floaty, loose and wavy. And of course it wouldn’t be festival inspired if there weren’t a few flowers in your hair! A flower crown would give your relaxed hairstyle some extra beauty.

If you do decide to have your wedding outside, high heels may not be ideal. In fact, just like an outdoor festival, wellies may be required! But don’t worry, you could easily dress up your boots with flowers to match your flower crown.

A festival wedding isn’t complete without a tent.. or two. Why not have a large tent or tipi to house all your guests under. Peaktipis are a great company offering stunning tipi’s perfect for a festival wedding. Did you see the boho tipi wedding on our blog yesterday? You could opt for a couple of smaller tents for people to sit in and relax or for the kids to play in.

Bales of hay would make brilliant seating. Picture this.. Bales of hay in the shape of sofas, covered in blankets, under a fairy light lit-up trees.. Now that’s a festival lover’s dream! Why not use bales to create seating areas around small open fires or single bales of hay dotted around for a more intimate setting.

A trend that is becoming ever more popular is hiring food trucks at your reception rather than having a caterer. You could opt for a savoury truck serving up rustic pizzas and a sweet truck offering crepes and candy floss. This allows your guests to help themselves when they want and even go back for seconds when they think no one is watching. Another food trend that would suit this theme are naked cakes. These are cakes with out fondant icing on, the cake is bare and dressed with fruit and flowers.

If you choose to have your wedding later in the day, you’ll need some festival themed lighting to light up your reception as the sun sets. Fairy lights wrapped around tree trunks, festoon lighting, candles in jam jars and lanterns are just a few lighting ideas which would work perfectly for your festival wedding. Fabric Theatre have a huge amount of lights available to hire.

Going one step further, you could have festival themed signs directing guests to where the food, live music, dance floor and seating area’s are. Many festival goers will pick up on the theme instantly!
