Calling all you DIY Divas!  Jam jars. That’s right, jam jars!

A wedding trend that can be used for any aspect of your wedding. From wedding favours to wedding decorations, jam jars simply tick all the boxes!

Jam jars are so versatile, they come in all shapes and sizes, coloured glass or clear and are pretty easy to get your hands on. I know for a fact my mother can’t be the only one who hoards hundreds of label-less empty jam jars in the cupboard under the stairs left to collect dust, in the off chance she might take up jam making one day.

Here are a few great ideas on how to incorporate jam jars into your big day with little effort and without leaving a hole in your pocket…

Jam jars make great tokens for table plans. As the picture below shows that jam jars have multiple uses, it’s your drinking glass for the night AND helps you find where you will be sitting… how many pint glasses have helped you find a seat when you’ve had one too many? It’s definitely a more unique table plan style than the usual handwritten diagram.

Another brilliant idea is using jam jars as your wedding favours. Particularly good if you use smaller jam jars that fit perfectly in your guests’ clutch bag. What you fill your jar up with is completely up to you, jelly beans, fudge, love hearts, you name it.

Jam jars are simple but very effective! You can very easily design them to be in keeping with your wedding theme. Add lace or doilies for a vintage look, or add brown garden string and hessian for a more rustic woodland feel.

Flowers are probably the more obvious choice to fill your jam jar with, but how you choose to do it is what gives it that unique touch. Jam jars filled with fresh flowers can be used as your centre pieces on the tables, they could line the wedding aisle, or if you’re feeling particularly daring why not suspend them from a frame or the ceiling and have them hang in all their splendour!

You’ve got boxes of jam jars at home… and tea lights are only a couple of quid for a bag of a 100… need I say more!? Candles in jam jars are perfect for all types of weddings they bring in the warmth on a dark evening, they add that twinkle of light between guests across the table and more importantly the jam jars protect the guests from any naked flames and also keep the candles from blowing out…practical AND pretty (sounds like quite the catch to me).

Boy! Have I saved the best for last! Why not bring in a bit of that ‘hip and happin’ bar and club style where they use jam jars for their cocktails. It’s quirky and fun and potentially a great conversation starter with your guests! The jam jars look very inviting with a load of sliced up fruit bobbing about in a brightly coloured cocktail – perfect for a spring or summer wedding.

Having your wedding breakfast dessert in a jam jar is a bit of a new one for me to. But just look at the picture below. Don’t you dare tell me that doesn’t look tasty. I reckon this idea would be brill for those types of desserts that have layers, like a trifle or tiramisu. However, I’m a bit of a clumsy person and I can imagine that eating from a jam jar could be a little difficult… Challenge accepted!!

These are just a few ideas to get you started – hopefully to get those creative juices flowing. Think of jam jars as empty, clear vessels that can be filled with anything… the possibilities are endless!
