This is such a unique and creative photo shoot! With the use of warm colours and late seasonal fruits, this photo shoot leads us perfectly into the autumn season.

Over to Hannah Hall, the photographer for this shoot, to tell you how it all went and her thoughts around the styling and concept…

Derelict Opulence was a styled shoot that aimed to combine luxury and decay, and the beauty that lies within both. We built our vision around a starting point of lace, exposed brick, figs, rich colours and taxidermy. It was an opportunity to try something a bit different, a little darker and stamp our personalities on the shoot.

Our location for the shoot was the ultra cool Kino Lounge in Kettering, Northamptonshire. It’s been a bar for the last year but started life as the town’s Corn Exchange. It’s also been a cinema, and more recently, a gift shop and a bookies! The bare walls, remains of old wall paper and layers of paint, and unique reclaimed furniture made a great back drop for the shoot.

We shot in the day time, while the bar was open to customers, so we had to be creative with lighting to make it appear darker than it actually was inside. Ivy and moss were the obvious choice for greenery; naturally occurring in places that are uncared for, and we combined these with sumptuous, rich red roses, and other floral brights, as well as rich coloured, decadent fruits such as pink grapefruit, pears, plums and red grapes to dress the tables.

Like wise, our wedding cake made by Moosie Cakes included beautiful fruit decoration, but the ‘dripped’ effect of the icing help to enhance the sense of unloved and forgotten about. Our props included antlers, rickety wooden step ladders, brass candle sticks and cut class to finish off the setting perfectly.

Rockabilly Rose the Florist, The Little Rustic Wedding Company and Elysian Weddings & Events are definitely the dream team of room dressing! Our beautiful models, who embraced lavish 20’s inspired up-dos by Leanne Eldridge and bold, sophisticated make-up by Liza Smith wore a selection of gowns from Modeca Bridal, Paloma Blanca and Ronald Joyce, with some choice accessories, all supplied by Icon Bridal, whose shop is based on the other side of the market square to Kino Lounge. Their choices complimented the theme perfectly; delicate lace, statement necklines, and extravagant beading.
