A Bride’s Journal | Emma & Andy | Part One |
We’re back with our Bridal Journey Series and we can’t wait to introduce you to our latest couple, Emma and Andy. Emma is an avid Save the Date Magazine reader and when asked to sum up her wedding in three words she said, ‘Relaxed, Romantic & Fun’. Today we’re finding out a little more about this perfect pair, how they met and their initial wedding planning thoughts. So, let’s get stuck in and meet the wonderful Emma & Andy…
Tell us a little bit about yourselves?
Andy and I are both full time designers, living and working in Derby. We first met over 7 years ago whilst I was at University in Leeds where the company he worked for ran a design project with my course. I remember him nervously coming over to talk to me, and me nervously talking back, but I must have made an impression as he still to this day remembers saying to his colleague “I’m going to marry this girl”
After I graduated, Andy and I moved to Manchester together so that I could pursue my dream career as a graphic designer. After living there for three years we decided we wanted to settle down and be closer to my family in Derby. It was a big risk as we both needed to find new jobs, but I knew that with Andy by my side again, we’d be fine. And we were. A year later we bought our first home together, and it’s been our happy place ever since.
How did he propose?
After being together for 7 years, and about to set off on a dream holiday to Mauritius, I had a bit of an inkling that it might happen – so much so I had my nails done just incase! My suspicions were confirmed when Andy became very flustered at airport security, but I was still taken completely by surprise when it happened. We’d gone for an impromptu walk along the beach at sunset and there was no one else around, but I was so engrossed in taking photos I hadn’t noticed him knelt in the sand. As soon as I realised what was happening I burst into tears, and couldn’t stop squealing with happiness! The ring Andy had made was more beautiful than anything I could have imagined, and the fact he’d taken my Mum with him to the jeweller appointments made it even more special.
Have you chosen your wedding venue?
As soon as we got back from Mauritius we started to think about our wedding as we both knew we didn’t want to wait too long. We had an idea of what we wanted our day to look like, but we had absolutely no idea where to start!
It felt logical to look at venues first, and the very first appointment we made was at Hazel Gap Barn. I’d always dreamt of a barn wedding and upon pulling into Hazel Gap, I knew it was perfect. Andy and I immediately fell in love with it, picturing ourselves and our guests, and we booked our date that very same day! I doubted whether or not we should have looked at others, but Hazel Gap was everything we dreamed of and more, so it just felt right.
What’s been your favourite part of wedding planning so far?
Being a graphic designer, designing our wedding stationery has been my favourite bit so far. We both knew we wanted the stationery to be simple and elegant, but also reflect the day we envision. Our save the dates were layered vellum and textured card, featuring a foliage design and calligraphy font, and the invitations will follow a similar theme. So far, the rest of the planning process has all been a whirlwind of excitement and we’ve not felt at all pressured or stressed. I’m sure there will be some struggles along the way, and I’m due my fair share of Bridezilla moments, but no matter what, neither of us want to get caught up in the little things and lose sight of the reason we’re doing this.
We’re seriously excited to hear more about Emma & Andy’s wedding planning journey, their ideas for their day and how they’ve found it all so far. Keep your eyes peeled for their next instalment, but in the meantime if you need another dose of real wedding inspo, pop over to the blog now!
