So, you’ve finally bagged that beautiful bit of bling and you couldn’t be any happier showing it off to anyone and everyone! Your engagement and wedding rings are the start of your new life together as Mr & Mrs, and much alike your marriage, you want to make sure that sparkle lasts forever. However, there are some essential tasks that you need to get in the habit of to ensure that your engagement and wedding ring stays picture-perfect. Keep reading to find out how you can take complete care of your engagement and wedding ring…

Understandably, you may never want to take your engagement or wedding ring off and lots of people don’t, but we suggest removing it for certain things to avoid any damage or disaster! For instance, when playing certain contact sports, attending the gym or evening gardening there is always a risk that your rings could get scratched, dirty or damaged. Getting dirt in the grooves can prove incredibly difficult to clean properly and it would be awful if it got scratched. It’s also worth noting that you should avoid exposing your ring to harsh chemicals, such as those you use when cleaning the house. Bleach products can do some serious damage!

It may sound silly, but we would also recommend taking your ring off when you’re showering or having a bath. It is so easy for your ring to slip off and disappear without you even realising, and once it’s down the plug hole it’s gone forever! Plus, the combination of shampoo, shower gel and general toiletries can get blocked up in your ring and can take away the twinkle of the rock.

The same applies for swimming in the sea and the pool, especially if it’s freezing! Ice cold water will cause your fingers to shrink, meaning the likelihood of your ring slipping off is increased. Imagine trying to find it in the ocean – no chance! Plus, regular exposure to chlorine can be a nightmare for engagement and wedding rings so it’s best to avoid.

If you do decide to take if off during the above activities, make sure you keep it in a safe place! You’ll need to keep it somewhere that’s secure and one that you’re going to remember. Be sure to keep it locked away in your ring box to again, avoid any damage.

Make sure you get into the habit of regularly getting your engagement and wedding ring checked. We suggest every 12 months you pop into your jewellers to make sure everything is looking as good as new. It’s also a great opportunity for your jewellery to check the sparkle of the stone and ensure it hasn’t dulled.

It’s important you regularly clean your ring, but properly! You can hire a professional, buy an efficient ring cleaner online or simple place in a bowl of slightly warm water with a small amount of soap.

Last, and certainly not least, one of the most important things that you can do to take care of your engagement and wedding ring is to insure it! Fingers crossed, if you stick to our top tips, nothing awful will happen to either your engagement or wedding ring, but accidents do happen! It may be an additional cost, but it will also offer you peace of mind, which is often priceless.
