“Everyone says it but the day flies by, try and take a few moments throughout the day together to just look around and soak it up. When organising the wedding try not to get too stressed about the small details – and also don’t get offended if others don’t share your worries – it’s the biggest day of your life, not theirs, so it’s understandable if they aren’t too bothered if the tablecloths are silver or gold! Don’t worry about your guests. Everyone will be there because they love you and want to share this special time with you and I think it’s really important to remember that.”

“As hard as it is, don’t let family politics get in your way! Family is a funny thing and there will be drama along the way no matter what. You invite who you want! Don’t sweat the small stuff. I forgot a couple of place names and we had a few no shows on the day… just roll with it. Try and make you (the newlyweds) stop throughout the day and just take it all in. Its YOUR day, no one else’s. You want to remember this day for the rest of your life for the right reasons.”

“Wedding on a ‘shoe-string’ budget! – It is completely possible if you are willing – and brave enough – to roll up the sleeves do-it-yourself! DIY your décor – I lost count of all the projects I had on the go, from making my own paper bunting to arranging my own flowers, complete with bridal and bridesmaid bouquets. Don’t pay someone else to do it – if you have an idea, just give it a go! I so enjoyed immersing myself creatively into weaving my wedding together by hand that I was a little lost when it was all over. (And my flat was a tip). Oh – and use Pinterest to help you! Be different. If you want to. Don’t plan the day you think everyone else is expecting – consider what you and your spouse-to-be truly want. Serve afternoon tea, invite only a handful of your nearest and dearest, get married at a local restaurant. We did all of these things and regret nothing!”

“When it comes to advice for other brides and grooms, always have a day that is really meaningful to you both, make sure it reflects you as a couple and don’t do things just because you feel you should. Ask friends and family to help out as there will be lots of skills and talent they can put to good use.”

“Do as much planning and preparation as you possibly can up to midday the day before the wedding. Then relax and enjoy it, don’t worry about anything – let whatever happens, happen.”

“I would tell future brides that your day goes so fast, don’t worry about the small stuff and try and get round everyone (during the meal is a good opportunity). I felt like I didn’t get to speak to everyone as I talk too much and wasn’t getting around the tables quick enough. We also had our 8 month old baby there. We hired a fantastic nanny from All Events Childcare who took charge of our little boy and for once I didn’t have to worry about him the whole day! We also had a childminder to look after the flower girls and my nephew who sat in a playroom during the wedding breakfast and speeches, they got to play games, watch dvd’s and not be fidgeting through formal meal / speeches. They had a great time.”

“Enjoy every minute of your wedding day – it goes far too quickly!”

“We recommending getting the best photographer and videographer you can afford. Try and spend 10 minutes alone together to take in the craziness of the day!”

“My advice for any future brides would be to accept help from others. Your day will go that much smoother if you allow other people to take control of certain things, just be specific with your instructions! I had two close friends set up the decorations on the morning of the wedding, something that I would have happily done myself but the last thing I wanted was to be stressed with that before getting myself ready. It also meant that when I finally walked down the aisle that it was a lovely surprise and brought tears to my eyes.”

“Try and take a few moments together throughout your special day to stand back and appreciate how much you’ve achieved. Take a couple of moments to be together, just the two of you. Remember that very few of your guests know how you planned your day so if there are any mishaps, don’t stress over them – your guests will be none the wiser!”
