An Intimate Family Ceremony at Papplewick Pumping Station

Adam & Laura decided to have a rustic wedding theme to complement their Victorian and farm venue. With the weather on their side, Adam & Laura had a truly beautiful day.

Over to Laura to tell you all about it…

“We got married at Papplewick Pumping Station. As soon as we saw the venue we knew it was perfect for our big day. We wanted a small intimate family ceremony (40 people) and Papplewick fitted the bill. Its in a fantastic location and is a truly incredible building.

With the Victorian nature of the ceremony venue and also living on a farm and hosting the wedding there in a redundant brick barn meant that we inevitably favoured a slightly rustic theme for the wedding incorporating original features/hessian.

I set aside a day with both my mother and future mother in law for finding my perfect dress and was determined to find a one that day. We visited a lot of different shops but eventually in the last shop found my perfect dress (and well within budget). My dress was fairly plain, strapless, chiffon style material with a flower and bead pattern in the centre.

Our stationary was provided by my fathers printing firm. We used a local caterer The Limehaus deli from Orston who produced a fantastic spread in the afternoon. They also provided canapés, served the drinks during the day, produced the evening food and advised us on a lot of the other aspects we had not considered e.g. timings/layout etc.

For the bar we turned to our local pub The plough in Cropwell Butler who did a great job of running the bar outside in our garden serving some very thirsty guests.

A particularly nice touch were our beautiful flowers which were provided by the Flower Pod in Southwell which is a charity who help adults with learning disabilities.

Our marquee was provided by Buster marquees Nottingham. They did an amazing job of setting up and joining to existing buildings.

We are very fortunate to have a fantastic group of friends and family, a friend made our cake for us, a relation offered his Mercedes and embraced his role as chauffeur for the day, and another friend James Sharpe, Sharpes of Nottingham  provided us with a red London bus and drove all the guests to Papplewick.

Finally the day ended with an amazing performance by band Roy Stone and performance, who were real crowd pleaser’s.

How could we forget our lovely photographers, Emily and Katy, who did a superb job and perfectly captured the unique ceremony, rural reception venue and a camera shy bride groom on our big day.

On the lead up, and on the days itself, remember to enjoy all of it. I made a point of enjoying each day and whoever I was spending it with and also whatever jobs we had to do…decorating jam jars etc. Once you’ve got all the big things in place they take care of themselves. Getting all the small things in place are the things that make your wedding day special!”
