A day filled with classic elegance {Sally & Dale’s Wedding}

Sally and Dale’s wedding theme was classic elegance. With Sally’s crisp white dress, the pastel styled venue and white peonies – we think they pulled it off perfectly!

Over to Sally to tell you in more detail how they planned their big day:

“Dale and I got married at St Chad, Church Wilne near Draycott, Derbyshire. We have both grown up in two little villages in Derby, Draycott and Breaston so from the moment we got engaged we both knew we would get married there as it held a special place in our hearts. St Chad’s is tucked away down a quiet country lane and has a stunning lake opposite where Dale and I have enjoyed many walks when growing up together so that really sealed the deal for us.

Our Reception was held at Swancar Farm, Trowell. It’s a beautiful 16th century country house set back from the hustle and bustle of everyday life which was just what Dale and I were looking for. We looked around several venues when we were planning the wedding, but when we both walked into the oak hall at Swancar Farm we looked at each other and said… This is the one. I think I even recall having a tear in my eye at that point to!

The style of our wedding was classic elegance. To be honest we really don’t know what made us choose that theme, we just love peonies, crisp whites and pressed glass so the theme just fell into place from there. I suppose it all stemmed from when I chose my dress which had a classic feel and the peonies were always going to be my flower of choice!

Although we were both very clear on what style of wedding we wanted and making the decision of where it would be held was very easy. The wedding dress was a whole different ball game and one that I couldn’t ask Dale about so that made it even more scary. As a little girl I always knew it would be white but that was as far as my little dreams ever went. I’d heard stories of how the experience of shopping for the dream wedding dress was stressful and to be honest it was a world that I had suddenly entered that I had no experience of. When I first started visiting bridal shops to look at dresses I was being asked questions of cut, materials and design none of which I knew the answer to, it was a complete minefield! There were rows and rows of different dresses which if I’m honest all merged into a ball of white fluff with there being so many of them so close together.

After visiting a few bridal shops, on a cold January afternoon my mum and I went to visit Elaina at Baroque Couture. I will never forget my mums famous last words before we walked through the door, “we have plenty of time to keep looking for the perfect one so don’t get worried if this isn’t it”. We were welcomed by Elaina and mum and I didn’t look back. The initial appointment was a lovely chat over tea finding out about who I was, where we were getting married and any ideas that I had around what I wanted in the dress. I remember saying it had to be white, I’d love lace arms and I wanted it to frill and have a soft look at the bottom. Within minutes from just those few comments the most perfect sketch was drawn, different laces were pulled out of this special box to choose from and a decision made.

I had the luxury of the dress being made around me and the opportunity to see my dress develop month to month. Elaina got to know me even more and as she did little bits were added and modified on my dress- that’s where the flower came in, the veil expanded in length and a hair piece introduced to complement my dramatic veil. The hair piece replicated that of Lady Mary’s from Downton Abbey – another love of mine.

What made it even more unique was that Elaina even designed and made our little flower girls dress. It was created from a few ideas that my sister in law and I just had in our heads and I really wanted it to be made out of the same material as mine. Within a few days the most beautiful little gown was created out of nowhere, it was totally unique which is just like the personality of our little flower girl so it made it even more special.

The professional photos were taken by Emma from Emma Cleverley Photography. She was quite simply amazing, she put us both at ease on our engagement shoot as we both hate having our photos taken. She fitted into the wedding effortlessly we didn’t even know she was there! When we got the photos back both of us were like do you remember her taking that photo! Even some which were pretty posy!

Our stationary was hand designed by Ruth from Ivy and Ink. I trawled the internet for hours to find exactly what we wanted but just couldn’t find it. That’s until we found Ruth, over a cup of tea our stationary was custom designed and captured and complemented the theme of our wedding and of course it incorporated the peony flower from my dress and flower choices.

The Bridesmaid dresses were Two Birds, the girls and I fell in love with them when we came to a Save the Date event in Nottingham called the Wedding Event with a Difference and saw them on the catwalk. We went to Cicily bridal, Ashby to get them literally the next week. They were so helpful and the girls look amazing in them.

We built up great relationships up with all our suppliers so we knew them well and really built up the trust that you need. We had no doubts on the day that each one of them would go that extra mile to make it a special day for us and both our family and friends. We had so many great ones which we still keep in touch with. I would recommend them all highly to anyone getting married! {See the full list of lovely suppliers at the end of the blog}

My best bit of advice would be – do as much as you can together! There is reason why you make such a great team so why would you plan it on your own. There will be tears along the way, but it’s great that Dale and I can laugh about those tears along with reflecting on the great memories we have on the day!”
