Bex is back on the blog and she's talking all about her amazing hen weekend!

If you've been keeping a close eye on Bex & Ryan's wedding planning journey (her previous instalments are over on the blog so get browsing) you'll be pleased to know that the bride-to-be is BACK! This time, Bex is revealing everything there is to know about her hen party and what made it so memorable and this super organised bridal babe planned everything herself. With gorgeous decor galore, beer bong, the cosiest accommodation and an amazing squad of hens, lets find out more...

“To many people’s dismay, I planned my own hen do. I like to be in control, and the thought of not knowing what’s going on makes my toes curl! Definitely not a bridezilla though…

I did let my bridesmaids plan the small details, which actually turned out to be the best bits, but I needed to know where we were going and when. I knew straight away I wanted to go away with my nearest and dearest and be tucked up in a cottage for the weekend.

When I stumbled across Swallow’s Farm Cottage, a gorgeous period farm house located near Doncaster in South Yorkshire, I knew I had to book it. It has llamas and you can feed them, I didn’t need to know anything else. The hot tub and being able to book a cocktail class also helped.”

“We arrived on Friday afternoon and I essentially sunbathed outside with a bottle of fizz whilst my amazing bridesmaids and Mum scurried around indoors to decorate, we spent the evening playing games and dipping in and out of the hot tub. Saturday was a slower day (we were all massively hungover), but we got to pet and feed the llamas on the farm before getting dolled up for an evening of cocktail making in the cottage’s gorgeous kitchen.”

“Many of my friends and family aren’t local to me, so what was important to me wasn’t getting blind drunk, although this absolutely happened, it was having a space big enough and homely enough that we could all get together and have fun, Swallow’s Farm Cottage delivered on this. But I also wanted to make sure all these moments were captured.

I’d reached out to Emma McNair, a Nottingham based photographer who specialises in weddings as soon as I’d booked our weekend away. I love how Emma catches energy in her photography, so I knew she’d be a perfect fit for a weekend fuelled by an ABBA and gin.”

“I was pretty excited to have the Saturday evening photographed, I was feeling a tad smug that I’d thought of the idea to capture the memories like this, but when Emma sent the photos through, I hadn’t realised just how much of a good idea it was. She captured some of the amazing detail my bridesmaids had put together (my own cocktail menu, personalised cookies, PJ packs on everyone’s bed), facial expressions I’d missed during gin pong, group photos with all my favourite people but also the pure happiness on everyone’s faces. I would 100% recommend to book a photographer for your hen do, even if it’s just for a couple of hours; they’re some of the best photos and memories I have.”

Wow! Bex’s hen do sounded incredible and we LOVE the idea of having a photographer on hand to capture the moments and memories as they unfold. Keep your eyes peeled for Bex & Ryan’s next instalment…
