I thee wed – Helen and Adrian (Bay)

Posted by on in I thee wed, News.

For this weeks 'I thee Wed', we've adopted a slightly different angle, with the words coming direct from the photographer rather than the bride. It's great to listen to an account from the side of the photographer and understand their perspective and boy, what a great wedding to focus on. Traditional, classic yet stylish and chic, here Becky from Butterworth Photography tells us all about the recent wedding of Helen and Adrian (known as Bay):

Myself and my husband (we work together as Butterworth Photography) will look back at the wedding of the new Mr & Mrs Curtis with very fond memories. All weddings are very unique to us, yet this one was to be very special as I was totally connected to their choice of wedding venue and how much it meant to Helen.

Helen and Adrian ‘Bay’ live in Richmond Yorkshire however Helen was born, lived and studied in Nottingham for many years before that. I met up with Helen on a few occasions on her trips back to Nottingham and she told me how her marriage at the local church to her parents home in Bramcote, Nottingham and the celebrations afterwards at Nottingham University were key in her wedding plans as they both played a huge part in her life. This made me connect to their wedding immediately, as their church is just some ten minutes walk from my home and the University brings back many happy memories of Sunday walks and duck feeding.

After meeting Helen the night before the wedding to catch up on the finer details, I left her exuding excitement and looking incredibly radiant – an English rose as I described t0 Neil, my husband.

When I next saw Helen it was the morning of her big day, she was sat with the professional and tender hands of Liz a close family friend who had been hairdresser to now all of the 3 ‘Goldie’ girls. At this point Helen was looking more like a hair double for Bet Lynch as I walked in during the serious back combing stages! It wasn’t long after that Helen was helped by mum and Liz (plus a foot stool) to help her get into her dress, then her veil carefully placed, she was all set to meet her man …. and ready well on time!!

Meanwhile Neil had met up with ‘the guys’ at a local hotel. They all headed together over to the church and were later then to be met by ‘mini best man’.  The ceremony was very personal to Helen & Bay and the church was bursting with family, friends, neighbours and many other well wishers, just proving what a beautiful couple they are!

After the ceremony, I followed Helen and Bay to take some shots from the other side of the lake to their reception room of the University and Neil headed off to capture some of the guests arriving at the venue.  From then on, we both captured the celebrations, grabbing some quiet time with Helen and Bay at small intervals to get some ‘just the two of you’ time.

The last capture of the night was Helen & Bay with their first dance, which always seems to be the ‘wow we did it moment’. Just an incredible day.

Wow, seems pretty incredible Becky! And thank you so much for sharing this day with us.

Inspire Me – Celebrity hair

Posted by on in News, Wedding Gossip.

Come on, we all do it  - grab a copy of OK! or Hello and attempt to recreate a certain 'look' a front cover celeb bride seems to be effortlessly pulling off .... right?!

Well, I did just that. As you can read on the Rock my Wedding blog today, my big day hair inspiration was Carly Zucker who married Joe Cole. A tight pleat at the back with va va voom on top and that is exactly what my hairdresser, James White, managed to pull off for me.

So, whether it's the long tumble of curls, Eva Longoria style you're looking for or the more elegant Autumn Kelly look you're dreaming of, don't be ashamed to take that mag straight to your hairdressers and demand 'I want my hair to look exactly like that' (in a nice way of course). Because, at the end of the day, we all get inspiration from each other and who better to inspire us than the rich and famous!

Friday Frenzy – Baroque Head pieces

Posted by on in News.

We at Save the Date magazine have a lot of time for the Dressing Room in Draycott so when Elaina approached us to pose wearing her amazing head pieces, we were more than a little flattered. What is quite obvious when looking at these images is that we are definitely not of the model type, quite far from it actually, however, we had lots of fun and really enjoyed spending an hour or two with Elaina, getting our hair and make up done and of course, having a few (much needed) glasses of champagne!

Cathy from Oehlers Photography was on hand to capture our giggles and attempted poses! And boy, what a great find Cathy was - we were so excited to meet her and take a look at her fantasic work. Such a talented photographer and a really lovely woman.

Right then, without further ado, here are the pictures and of course, the simply stunning head pieces designed and created by the lovely Elaina herself:

Abbi fiddling with her intricately designed creation (how fabulous is this mirror by the way!?)

Oooh, if only I could get married again - I would SO be donning one of these beauties!

Playing around with corsets too! All handmade by Elaina, of course.

The one on the right really suits brunettes whilst Abbi, below, with her blonde hair totally suits this fabulous adornment with her doll like features!

I thee Wed – Emma and David

Posted by on in I thee wed, News.

OMG - this wedding has it all. Stylish, brimming with creativity and lots of quirky touches to make their wedding their own, here we give you Emma and David's beautiful day with a heartfelt account from Emma herself and amazing photography by Nick Grove.

We were married on Sat 26th June 2010 at 11.30am at St Mary and All Saints Church, Kirkby Underwood, Lincolnshire followed by a marquee reception at my parents property in the village of Kirkby Underwood.

We currently live in Sunderland, my husband is from Sunderland I met him whilst I was studying Occupational Therapy at Northumbria University in 2005 and since then we have lived up here and both work in the area. Im a paediatric Occupational Therapist and David owns a couple of businesses (one in the health care industry and the second a marketing and branding company).  We chose the venue as I always wanted to get married back at home. We would often walk up the lane to the church with my parents dog - it's the most beautiful setting and it just felt right for us to get married back at my home. The reason for the marquee is that we wanted to create a truly unique day that reflected us - having a marquee provided us with a blank canvas to allow us to achieve this and having it in my parents back garden was something special. It was lovely having Davids family and all our friends from the North East visit where I was born and brought up.

It was very special and enjoyable choosing my dress. My mum came with me to help and I also had 4 bridesmaids (6 all together with the 2 little ones) so had many people on hand to help. David proposed with a gorgeous Tiffany and Co engagement ring in 2008 in Antigua. My ring was a little big so when we landed we stayed in London over night so I could visit the store on Bond Street to have my ring resized. Whilst walking to Tiffanys I walked past the Pronovias flagship store and fell in love with their dresses, I knew from then it had to be pronovias!! I attended the Designer Wedding Show with my Mum in London and found my dress "Pronovias Hawai" I loved it ... then by chance came across a beautiful bridal shop called Bridal Wish which is in Blagdon Hall Estate near Morpeth Northumberland which had the dress!!! They also had the bridesmaid dresses that I had seen in a magazine (they were by Dessy) so it was fate!! Bridal wish were fantastic - it was an amazing experience and they really looked after me. A lady called Jacqui was wonderful in helping me choose my dress with my mum. As my dress was quite plain with raw silk, I chose a crystal labrinth to wear in my hair as I didn't like tiaras on me . This was from Million Design Company.

We are both a young trendy couple and wanted to create a trendy stylish look whilst incorporating the country theme. We wanted a fun, relaxed day with our special friends and family. The country church is in the middle of a field and we decorated the church with all green and white flowers with many of my favourite flowers; oriental lillies which were grown for us by a grower in the next village. We had a marque at the front of the house which was decorated with lilies where the magican and carribean steel band performed. The main marquee had three sections; one large all white area decotated wth tall aranagements with white hydrangeas, peonies and lilies. As name tags, we used white luggage labels and tied these to the chairs with a lovely sliver ribbon. The dance floor was white with dark starlight cloth all over the ceiling and the bar area was all blacked out with a light up bar and settees for people to chill out on. Our colour theme was white and a grey/silver.

The older bridesmaid carried large pink peony flowers and chose their own sex and the city style designer high shoes, whilst the little ones had flower wands of bouvardia. My shower bouquet had calla lillies, peonies, roses and lizzianthius. The flowers were made by myself, my mum and my cousin Megan so I was really proud of our achievement in doing these ourselves - I made my own bouquet the morning of my wedding!!

We had lots of lovely little extras to make our day extra special including a bentley to drive us to and from church whilst all the guests walked back from church down the lovely country lane to my parents home. We decorated an old fashioned bike and placed this in the middle of the village with a sign directing guests to our wedding.
We served bellini's and bottles of corona as our welcome drinks as Davids favourite drink is corona with lime and we had handmade heart shaped lavender bags as favours for the ladies (these were made by my cousin Meg, auntie Deb and nannie bel)
We had an amazing magician - he kept stealing peoples' watches and the guests were still going on about him weeks after the wedding!

In terms of entertainment, as we got engaged in Antigua, we had a Carribean steel band play at our drinks reception and our good friend Joe Carnall who is a professional singer  performed an accoustic set after our meal.

A few other quirky bits and pieces we did were putting plasters and deodarants in the ladies toilets so they could dance all night, having a four tier cheese wedding cake aswell as a contemporary cake from couture cakes and our table names were places that we had visited and meant something to us i.e "Bamburgh" (Bamburgh castle was where we went on our first date).
As our eveing reception food, we had a local fish and chip van turn up at our venue serving traditional fish and chips in paper which our guests loved!!

My last memory was leaving our wedding (about 3.45 am) walking down my mum and dads driveway which was lit by candes all the way down the drive - it was beautiful.

Told you this one was a OMG moment. If that were me, I'd have this last picture blown up onto a gorgeous canvas and put pride of place in my living room - just gorgeous.

Thanks to Emma for her lovely words and Nick for his stunning photographs.

Supplier of the Week – The Wedding of my Dreams

Posted by on in Fab Suppliers.

Oh, how we love coming across cuter than cute and creative companies offering stylish and quirky  pieces for weddings and events alike. We love it even more when its someone full of enthusiasm and ready to take the wedding market by storm!

Here, we give you 'The Wedding of my dreams' and their story so far ....

Why we started?

Karen and Gemma Morgan are a mother and daughter team based in Warwickshire. Karen has had a successful wedding floral design company 'Passion for Flowers' since 2003 and more recently, Gemma has joined her full time and together they have launched 'The Wedding of my Dreams'.

As the wedding side of 'Passion for Flowers' began to develop and become more and more successful, we found ourselves meeting with brides on a very regular basis and one of the common things they were asking was how could they make their wedding unique and personal? Where could they buy little extra decorations to make their day feel different from everyone else's?

What inspired us?

We were inspired by our own brides, we started offering some unique extras including petal confetti, bridal brooches, table plan ideas as well as a range of 'do it yourself' workshops, through 'Passion for Flowers'. All of these were really well received by our brides and they were asking for more of the same, especially unique table decorations.

What we offer

We launched our new online shop, The Wedding of my Dreams, in August 2010. We have searched for individual and quality designers to offer an inspirational and individual range of wedding table and venue decorations to brides all under one roof. We are approachable and offer great customer service hoping to help brides easily find unique and different wedding decorations to make their day truly unique.

Some of our best sellers are mirror tree table centres/wish tree, cotton ivory bunting, 'They Lived Happily Ever After' wedding sign', silver and glass vintage votives, paper lanterns with butterflies
